Principal Metallurgist
Simon is a Principal Metallurgist with over 30 years of experience, is a chartered professional with the AusIMM (MAusIMM (CP)), has an MBA and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He has extensive design and operational expertise across a range of mineral processing and hydrometallurgical processes, including nickel, cobalt, alumina, copper, gold, base metals, iron ore and magnetite, manganese, lithium, phosphate, potash scandium, PGEs, and various other commodities. His broad range of experience covers management, supervisory and technical roles in plant operations, commissioning, project studies, detailed design engineering, metallurgical testwork management and competent person reporting.
His current role has a heavy emphasis on independent technical review, due diligence, expert witness, supporting ore reserve updates and competent person reporting, advising mergers and acquisitions, acting in a project steering committee capacity, provides construction completion monitoring for financiers, and occasionally in an independent expert witness role. He has the relevant qualifications, experience, competence and independence to act as a metallurgical ‘Specialist’ and ‘Competent Person’ under the VALMIN (2015) and JORC (2012) codes, and as a qualified person under NI 43-101 standards of disclosure for mineral projects.
Simon has worked in this area collaboratively with a number of consultancies, engineers and project owners providing metallurgical testwork, processing, infrastructure, capital and operating cost support since 2007. In this time, he has contributed to over 300 independent technical reviews of varying nature across a range of commodities. Time permitting, he also provides commissioning and operational support, and works in lead process engineer and project manager roles for projects ranging from scoping to feasibility study level.
