Simulus Engineers provided flowsheet optimisation and multidisciplinary engineering services to Altech Chemicals for the completion of their high purity alumina bankable feasibility study. The process involves heat treatment, HCl leach, intermediate product precipitation, intermediate purification, and final product calcination, washing and jet milling to produce 99.99% high purity alumina from the kaolin feedstock mined in Meckering, Western Australia. The study provided a robust project outcome, with high NPV and capital and operating costs in line with expectations. Simulus Laboratories also provided the batch testwork for the flowsheet and mini-plant piloting of the key process stages. Visit for more information about the project.
